THANK YOU for your continued support of the Bal Harbour Shops Enhancement Plan! We appreciate your efforts on our behalf, and are especially grateful to the many residents who attended the April 13 Village Council meeting to speak in support of the Plan. You made thoughtful, well-reasoned calls for a public referendum on the sale of Village Hall, as well as the $127 million in community benefits that our original plan would have contributed to the Village.
The Village Council was ultimately split 2-2 on the Village Hall matter, meaning that the issue will not go before voters. Mayor Packer and Assistant Mayor Cohen opposed the Village Hall sale, which – along with voter approval – would have allowed Bal Harbour Shops to fund and build a brand new municipal building for the Village, among other community benefits.
In light of this, we submitted revised plans to the Village on Friday, April 29. The revised proposal, which will be built entirely on land already owned by Bal Harbour Shops, nevertheless offers significant benefits to the community, including: millions of dollars in additional tax revenues; wider sidewalks and increased landscaping around the Shops; and expanded vehicle entries/exits and improved traffic signalization that will lead to a 15% reduction in traffic delays around the Shops.
We are optimistic that the Bal Harbour Shops Enhancement Plan will become a reality, as all four Council members have expressed a desire to see the Shops expand and succeed. We will keep you updated as we move forward with the revised Plan and thank you once again for your continued support.
