As plans for the enhanced Bal Harbour Shops and improvements for Bal Harbour Village move forward, an organization calling itself the Bal Harbour Neighbors Alliance has suddenly surfaced. The organization has been sending purposefully misleading emails and mailers to residents with patently false claims about Bal Harbour Shops and the Church by the Sea without revealing its true agenda and funding source.
The Church by the Sea has been working for years on a plan for its future that will allow it to better serve its congregation and the community at a new facility. All of the work that has been recently performed at the Church was properly permitted and lawfully executed and completed by the Church itself.
Here are some eye-opening facts about the Bal Harbour Neighbors Alliance:
- Ironically, this mysterious, self-styled alliance of so-called Bal Harbour residents actually lists a nondescript Miami Beach strip mall as its home address.
- We don’t know who exactly the outsiders behind this campaign are, but we do know the organization is registered as a nonprofit whose registered agent is a former-politician-turned-election-attorney J.C. Planas.
- J.C. Planas is the same lawyer who has been behind numerous political campaigns, including a campaign on Miami Beach funded by the families behind Aventura Mall and the Design District, and recently filed a lawsuit against the Church.
Shame on the outsiders behind the Bal Harbour Neighbors Alliance for attacking our community in this way. We urge you to listen with care and consideration to the legitimate concerns of your fellow residents seeking to defend the Village while you question the motives of everyone else. Be on the alert for more messages from these so-called “neighbors,” whose motives and identities remain cloaked in mystery.
